Come hear our CEO and President, Jody Apap speak with Todd Carter of Tagasauris about the current state of technology in image and video keywording. This great event is being held by the NYC chapter of the ASPP.
Jody and Todd will each describe the methods and technologies they have used to create their current state of the art keywording tools and services.
KeywordSmart uses a traditional approach: Log into their site, follow their interactivekeywording checklist to create a comprehensive set of keywords, and the KeywordSmart back-end system uses a 130,000 word vocabulary to automatically generate synonyms, plurals, variant spellings, alternate punctuations, categorical terms as well as verb forms.
Tagasauris has created a software-as-a-service platform for crowd-sourcing data curation and metadata. By dividing the keywording process into small micro-tasks, their system combines computer algorithms with Amazon’s Mechanical Turk and micro-payments to leverage a world-wide community of image taggers and judges who verify the metadata.
Come and taste-test two very different methods of dealing with the cumbersome task of adding keywords to images and videos. There will be time for a Q&A period, and plenty of networking after the presentations.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Stock House Thursday: Media Bakery
This week I will check out how Media Bakery handles keywords.

Most of the elements I’m looking at don’t necessarily have an objective right or wrong answer. The only thing that really matters is that the photographer know the correct way to keyword for the individual stock house. Continue reading

Stock House Thursday: BigStock.com
Up this week is BigStock.com. Bigstock is actually owned by Shutterstock, but does not have the same keyword requirements, nor the same search engine, so be careful if you contribute to to both stock houses, as what you have found that works at one may not work at the other.

Following up last week’s analysis of Pond5.com I will now take an in depth look at how CanStock.com handles keywords.
